In what executives are calling “a bold step forward for beverage-carb integration,” Red Lobster has unveiled its newest menu item: the Cheddar Bay Cappuccino, a coffee drink topped with Cheddar Bay Biscuit crumble and a thick layer of garlic butter foam.
The drink arrives in a ceramic mug dusted with cheddar powder and features a tiny Cheddar Bay biscuit floating on top like a brave carbohydrate sailor navigating a sea of dairy.
Red Lobster’s diabolical drink is in direct response to Buffalo Wild Wings’ Espresso Proteini, complete with 10 grams of protein and a Buffalo Dry Rub rim, made just for National Espresso Martini Day.
Why beat them when you can join them in making something no one asked for … especially when you can cram in the carbs?
According to Red Lobster’s marketing team, the beverage was designed to capture the restaurant’s most beloved flavor profile: “butter, garlic and mild confusion.”
“People kept telling us they love our biscuits,” said a spokesperson during the launch announcement. “So we asked the obvious next question: what if coffee also tasted like the inside of a biscuit basket?”
The result is a cappuccino that combines:
- fresh espresso
- steamed milk
- Cheddar Bay Biscuit crumble
- whipped garlic butter foam
Each sip reportedly delivers a layered flavor experience beginning with roasted espresso, followed by cheddar richness, and finishing with what early testers described as “the unmistakable sensation of accidentally eating dinner during breakfast.”
The company insists the drink pairs perfectly with any meal.
“It works with seafood, it works with brunch, it works with emotional eating,” the spokesperson explained. “This is a very flexible beverage.”
To maintain the authentic Red Lobster experience, the cappuccino also comes with unlimited biscuit refills, which servers will bring to the table every 90 seconds regardless of whether the customer has requested them.
Several early customers expressed surprise at the drink’s intensity.
“I ordered it thinking it would just be a novelty,” said one diner while slowly chewing a piece of garlic foam. “But somehow it tastes exactly like dipping a latte directly into the biscuit basket.”
Red Lobster chefs say creating the perfect garlic butter foam required months of experimentation.
“We tried subtlety at first,” said one test kitchen chef. “But eventually we realized subtlety is not what the Cheddar Bay lifestyle is about.”
Health experts have responded cautiously to the drink’s release.
A nutritionist reviewing the beverage described it as “essentially a buttery cappuccino wearing a bread hat.”
Still, the company remains confident in the product’s appeal.
Red Lobster’s official promotional slogan calls the drink: “The perfect beverage for people who want their breath to smell like a coastal bakery.”
If the Cheddar Bay Cappuccino proves successful, the restaurant hinted at additional coffee innovations, including:
- The Lobster Bisque Latte
- The Shrimp Scampi Macchiato
- The Ultimate Endless Espresso, which comes with unlimited refills until a server gently asks customers to please go home.
At press time, one customer was reportedly attempting to dunk the floating biscuit into the cappuccino while another at the table insisted it was “technically a seafood beverage.”
